This project was a pitch developed in application to the 2025 Tranzfuser competition (more details here: https://tranzfuser.com/). Illhveli, the proposed title, was conceived as a roguelike turn-based strategy game themed around Icelandic folklore. The gameplay would take influence from the Darkest Dungeon series, with the recruitment of generated characters who would be sent on missions, upgraded individually and permanently lost on death. Illhveli's combat system would distinguish itself by requiring the use of a ship for transportation and allowing individual units to move around the 2D environment, adding a layer of strategy around unit spacing and area effects.
In particular, effectively utilizing the ship was a key point of consideration. The player could affect its speed by having units man the oars or open the sails (adding speed based on the current strength and direction of the wind), allowing for control of its movement. The ship could even build enough speed to deal significant damage to an enemy by ramming into them, at the cost of some damage to itself in the collision. My primary contribution to this project was the design and prototyping of this combat system via diagrams, as depicted below.
