Zaqura was the end product of a group project to develop a vertical slice using the agile method in response to a prompt over the course of nine weeks. The prompt in question was to demonstrate a level of influence taken from the game "Untitled Goose Game". Our group chose to focus on the stealth and puzzle aspects of the game, as well as looking to games such as those in the "LEGO" series for examples of similar gameplay. Our workflow was divided into five sprints, allowing us to develop and present a pitch, before planning and implementing an effective testing and feedback strategy.
The game's stealth aspect requires the player to avoid patrolling enemies, preferably avoiding most sources of light, as standing in an illuminated area will allow them to be spotted from further away. The main objective is to reach the end of each level, requiring them to solve a puzzle, this being the game's other main aspect. The player has access to two abilities (and would obtain more as they progress in a fully developed version). The orange ability allows them to create an orb of light from specific "light well" objects, which they can then freely control. The orb will light hanging braziers on contact (all of which must be lit for their associated door to open), as well as distracting enemies, which will walk towards it on sight. The blue ability makes players temporarily intangible and immune to damage, as well as allowing them access to highlighted vases, which they may then freely teleport between, as long as one is in range.
Player character model and animations are from Mixamo https://www.mixamo.com. Enemy character models and animations are from "City of Brass: Enemies" pack. All other level assets are from "City of Brass: Environments" pack and "City of Brass: Props" pack. All "City of Brass" packs were released by Uppercut Games.
